Our story - Fast Forward French Fast Forward French

The Foundation Behind Fast Forward French

The principles behind Fast Forward French were shaped through years of working with adult learners across Canada.

Where it all started

Fast Forward French was founded in 1993 by Marie-Claire Thauvette (B.Ed., B.A.) with a human vision of language learning focused on clarity, support, and meaningful progress.

From the beginning, the goal has been to create a more engaging and supportive way for adults to learn French, beyond traditional teaching methods.

How we think

We do not see learning as a course or a system to memorize.

We see it as a structured experience where each learner is considered as a whole person, with real goals, real challenges, and real contexts.

Our learners come for different reasons, including professional exams, written and spoken communication, language maintenance, and personal development. What they share is the need for a more human and meaningful way to progress.

At Fast Forward French, learning is not delivered. It is experienced through practice, guidance, and real-life use.

How we teach

Our approach connects our philosophy to the real learning experience delivered by our instructors.

Each session follows a structured lesson plan with clear learning objectives. This ensures consistency, progression, and pedagogical quality.

At the same time, our instructors remain fully attentive throughout each session. They adjust pace, focus, and activities based on how learners are progressing in real time.

This balance between structure and flexibility ensures a learning experience that is both guided and truly human. Learners are supported as individuals, not treated as if they all learn in the same way.

With the support of in-house materials, instructors are able to maintain this balance while personalizing each session.

This is where structure meets adaptability, and where learning becomes genuinely personal.
